The green idea

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time

The greenhouse effect means, for example:

  • that water levels in the oceans will rise
  • that areas will experience drought
  • that there will be more extreme storms and hurricanes
  • that rain will change character in many areas, such that there will be longer between rainy days, but when it does rain, the rainfall will be heavier
Scientists are in agreement that the greenhouse effect is a result of human activity, and that it is possible to reverse the development.

The children of today are the adults of tomorrow, and they will have to live in the climate changes which are a consequence of the decisions and actions of adults. The climate change debate is thus all too serious just to leave to the adults.

The creative work with waste materials for the rubbish sculptures can awaken the curiosity of the students with regard to many different climate related questions. For example, whether our consumption has an effect on climate change. For instance, how the materials are produced, what happens with them when they get thrown out, and whether there are environmental and climate advantages to recycling them.

What can we do ourselves in the school and at home with our families to reduce our effect on the climate? What expectations do we have of our politicians to make the right decisions and create a good framework for environmentally sustainable behaviour?
